[AMD] Convair 300

Can anyone tell me something about the Convair 300? I'd never heard of it until I started trawling through the thousands of photos of Convairs of various types on Airliners.net a few days ago. Quite a few of the pictures were captioned 'Convair 300'. From what I could see from the photos, it appears to be a CV-240 with some 440-type modifications, such as lengthened nose and box-type exhausts. How many CV-300's were there? Which airlines used them, and when? Were there other modifications as well as those I've mentioned? The Convairs are among my favourite types, and I'd love to find out more about this little-known variant
