Anyway, since day one, I seal them in 'ziploc' style storage bags. I once bought several hundred of the little baggies that self seal (my ex called them drug dealer baggies, but hey, she's my ex now...) and I still have a few of the smallest for 1/72 armor decals or other tiny sheets, all the way up to the giant freezer bags for sheets like FDCal 1/72 or the RevGer A340 'Wiener Philoharmoniker' sheets. I have around 1750 kits and every decal is bagged. If they had the cloth front, they were usually kept, unless I had a kit where the cloth stuck to the decal (like old Airfix). The kits are all in the garage, so the temperature and humidity varies with season and weather outside. I wanted to minimize that impact. I haven't been collecting kits for too long, (maybe 10 years), but in that time I have yet to see yellowing on any decals that were bagged before they started to yellow. I buy used kit lots from that ever weaker online auction site, and
those kits often come with decals 'pre-yellowed.' because of a lack of preservation steps by their previous owners. The yellowing process stopped on those. I haven't tried the 'sunshine bleaching' idea to get the yellow out, but I would think being in a baggie would help that too.
Needless to say I am a strong advocate for the 'baggie' to preserve decals!
All my aftermarket decals not specific to a certain kit (or those that I will eventually sell (when I feel like enduring the pain of being an ebay seller again) are stored in the house in baggies because the temperature obviously varies much less, particularly in the Winter.
A tangent to this - does this group have a buy/sell post area, or policy on posting decals for sale? Most of the decals I am selling are not particularly expensive (ATP, Rareliners, Runway 30, Fowler, etc.), and cater to a more specific taste, so their value can be eaten up in base EBay / PayPal fees and relistings if they don't sell (if Ebay seller ElvisBasset is on here, I don't know how you do it).
Sorry for the long and winding post :}
