Yes, there are some very poor models, but don't we forget at times how technology has moved on. In the 40s and 50s computers did not exist, and moulds were made by craftsmen using hand tools. Also 'rivet-counters' were less common.
From the sixties on came computers and increasingly moved away from the manual skills to automated processes until today you can design something using CAD and make the masters using CAM (Computer Aided Manufacture).
So, although there are poor models existent they were designed and the tools produced decades ago.
I remember getting a Lindberg Caravelle when it was a brand new release and the same for the Airfix 1:144 747-100 (BOAC). Comments were very different then....
I do not consider it reasonable to 'knock' those early efforts, because without them we would not have todays superb kits. Possibly in another 50 years time other modellers will be saying exactly the same!
It is called evolution!
