Re: [AMD] Resin L-1011-500 made by Alan Hess

Talking with Allen, there is nothing you can do with the 1011. If it was bent, he says bending it with a warm water soak would work.

They don't absorb moisture, but the paint on the outside will help protect the resin from heat, especially if it's white.

The first models were made with bondo and resin. He didn't have anybody to talk to and was experimenting. The results looked good, so he used it. He also used something like gel-cote to coat the molds. It was white and created a hard shell that held the detail. Then, he added resin to the inside. This may be the two-part stuff someone else mentioned. He also used the dark green resin and then the cream resin. It was a learning process and pretty time consuming.

Thanks for the warning guys, but this has already happened!

The right side of my 747SP fuselage half is now taller than the left side - don't know how it happened. It may have been stored under another box & became slightly more flattened. Not sure how to fix.

The MD-80 & the L-1011-500 are in good shape - they are now stored away from the sun, heat, and are in good boxes & plastic. Had no idea they were such collector's items.

I guess when built they should be painted inside and out to help prevent moisture absorption?
