Did anybody catch this program a few days ago? I think it was on CNNBC or something like that, and was several hours long. I only caught part of it, but it was quite interesting and definitely worth seeing.
They featured many employees as well as Bob Crandall (retired CEO) and Gerard Arpy (current CEO). Crandall was asked about how much airline stock he owns. He said (no surprise to me) that he did not own any and would never buy any airline stock because it is among the worst investments anyone could ever make, always has been and always will be. Airlines are a great place to work and are vital and necessary for national security, but a terrible investment. That was right on camera. Both Crandall and Arpy articulated quite well about the myriad of problems and solutions to them that they have been involved with, and they obviously knew/know what they were/are doing.
American also makes their own MD-80 tailcones for $37,000 rather than pay Boeing more than $250,000 for one. I thought that was pretty interesting too.
There were a lot more interesting things discussed on the program, and if it comes around again, I'd love to see the whole thing.
Regards,
Jeff Jarvis, SDF
